Capitalizing on the renovation and relocating efforts of previous owners, Wesley and Jan Burks purchased this 1-1/2 story frame house four months ago. They were intrigued by its picturesque setting, enduring white picket fence and unique landscaping.

Built in 1940, many features found in older homes are represented here, including oak floors, crown and chair-rail moldings and built-in bookshelves. North Carolina pine lines the entrance hall, one wall of the living room and comprises the fireplace. A wall was removed and what was once a downstairs bedroom became a spectacular and spacious country kitchen and breakfast room.

The second floor, a converted attic, now contains two bedrooms and a bath. Exposed bricks leading from the downstairs fireplace to the chimney are present in one bedroom, now used as a study. Ample window areas negate any feeling of closeness in the slant-ceiling rooms. The previous owners used the upstairs as living quarters and used the front room downstairs as a den. Due to the size of the Burks' antique armoire and the inability to move it up the stairway, the downstairs room serves as the master bedroom, one example of the versatility and charm of this house.
